INTRODUCTION

When people think of an orthodontist then only think about braces and pain! But an Orthodontics is a specialty field of dentistry that diagnoses, prevents and treats irregularities of the teeth and face (Anonymus 2011 B [1] ). Orthodontists do much more than simply put on braces; oral surgery, reconstruction and therapy are a large part of an orthodontist's duties (Higgins 2011 [16] ). Part of the job is studying human teeth for knowing what type of bracket you are putting on what kind of tooth. Orthodontist is a hard working job, is a dentist who specializes in correcting crooked teeth hand treating facial alignment using methods such as braces, retainers and headgear. The position requires further and training than general dentistry. It pays from $90,000 to $164,848 per year in the United States, as of 2009 (D'Antuono 2011 [14] ).

FINDINGS

In the processes of becoming an orthodontist it takes about  8 years of schooling. To find out what you have to do it's easy as 1-2-3!   But their is really 6 steps - 1) Earn a Bachelor's degree. You must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree to enter dental school. 2) Enroll in a dental college to attain your DDS (Doctor of Dental Science). This will take four years of studying biology, social sciences, anatomy as they relate to dental health. 3) Pass the Dental Admissions Test. This test certifies that you have the necessary skills to become a practicing dentist; no dentist is allowed to operate a practice without passing this exam. 4) Enroll in a Science of Orthodontics course. This will take an additional two to three years. This course will begin teaching you the arts of your chosen profession. 5) Pass the College of Dentists' Board Examination. 6) Start a practice (Higgins 2011 [16] ). An orthodontist is a dentist whose specialty is working with patients to realign and straighten their teeth for functional or cosmetic reasons. As an orthodontist, you will use devices such as braces that apply pressure to the teeth and slowly readjust their positions in the gums (Health Professions and Medical Services 2011 [19] ) .

Many colleges provide dental schooling or orthodontist schooling. But always choose the right one! Always want the best university/college for your education in orthodontistry. Here are the top university/colleges in the United States of America : The University of Florida College of Dentistry, Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) ,The University of Alabama School of Dentistry  (GURG © 2011 [24]). The Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health , Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine , University of the Pacific and Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (GURG © 2011  [25] ) . It takes several years to become an orthodontist. You'll typically need to spend 2-4 years in an undergraduate program, four years in dental school and 2-3 years in a postgraduate orthodontics program (Health Professions and Medical Services 2011 [19] ) . These universitys are bound to get a D.D.S !

Braces are not on the cheep side..AT ALL. But it really all depends on what is your condition of your teeth. The cost of braces can vary widely, depending on a number of factors.  However, on average, patients should expect braces to cost between $4,000 and $10,000 (2011 Einstein Industries B [28] ) . An average dentist gets paid about $90,000 to $164,848 per year in the United Sates, as of 2009 (D'Antuono 2011 [14] ) .

All depending on how crooked your mouth is, if thier is extra teeth, or less teeth, is thier a gap,or something like that. Also depending what type of brackets or system you use.  The traditional type of braces, where thin metal wire is run between anchors attached to each tooth and tightened gradually to move the teeth into the desired position, are still generally the most economical option (2011 Einstein Industries B [29] ). Today people mostly do not get the traditional metal braces anymore. Only because now thier is new and imoprove options! Ceramic braces are a popular choice for patients who want less noticeable braces on their teeth. By using braces that are colored to blend in with the natural color of your teeth, these braces can be much less noticeable than traditional metal braces (2011 Einstein Industries B [30] ). Now manly paitents get the ceramic braces because they do not want people to see their annoying braces and they are easier to hide. But their is a better way to hide your braces! Some dentists offer their patients the option of choosing clear braces, which are made of pure monocrystalline sapphire, making them virtually see-through. Only the thin arch wire is visible, making clear braces nearly invisible. Generally, the cost of clear braces is slightly higher than traditional braces. On average, clear brackets placed on the front six teeth will cost about $200 more than with metal brackets (2011 Einstein Industries B [31] ). A patient needs to be understanding and reasonable on what they will spend to have a beautiful, straight smile!

The outlook for the this career,  it will eventually will be tough to be successful. Their will be more and more people interested and wanting to learn about human teeth and new ways to straighten teeth!  With all our new candy, pacifiers, gum and products similar , will increase the chances of peoples' teeth becoming crooked and jagged. All people want is straight teeth! Everyone does. They all want to look good and show off thier pearly whites. When you frist meet someone they look at your mouth as your talking. Do people want to see nice white teeth? Or crooked yellow teeth? The judging will go on forever. And as time goes on people will wish for straight , white , beautiful teeth. So they see an orthodontist!

New technology is always processing in the orthodontist business. Before the way to get braces was metal brackets and a thin metal wire was tied around the bracket. That is EXTREMLEY painful so they came up with a new and improve way to straighten your teeth! Invisalign is a new orthodontic treatment that gradually straightens teeth through the use of custom-fitted plastic aligners. These aligners are worn 24 hours a day except for when eating and drinking. Because they are "invisible" in the mouth, invisalign aligners have become the most popular orthodontic treatment option for adults with crooked teeth or misaligned bites (2011 Einstein Industries A [27] ). Now who doesn't want  invisable braces!?

CONCLUSION

Orthodontistry is a amazing visual to witness. It is a transformation of imperfect to perfect straight teeth. Braces will transform your teeth by: straightening teeth , correcting an irregular bite , closing unsightly gaps , bringing teeth and lips into proper alignment  (Anonymus 2011 B [1] ) . It is a hardworking process but it is worth it in the end. Their is the old way and new way to straighten your teeth with  the dental equipment. Which then keeps the business interesting. An orthodontist's salary is amazingly high. But it is equal amount ot what you have you pay in order to have the education you need, even more! Knowing human teeth is extremely importaant in orthodontistry, because you need to know which bracket belong with which tooth and an easier way to write notes. An orthodontist is a dentist whose specialty is working with patients to realign and straighten their teeth for functional or cosmetic reasons. As an orthodontist, you'll use devices such as braces that apply pressure to the teeth and slowly readjust their positions in the gums. It takes several years to become an orthodontist. You'll typically need to spend 2-4 years in an undergraduate program, four years in dental school and 2-3 years in a postgraduate orthodontics program (Health Professions and Medical Services 2011 [19] ). All in all, a dental orthodontist is a spectacular job.

As for my perspective on becoming an orthodontist, I find it some what interesting but yet disgusting. Only because,  it does seem like a fun intertaining job, yes , BUT it depends on your patients of course. Everyone can handle a nice, clean, fresh teeth and breath. But then you are going to have paients that don't bother to even put a tooth brush in thier mouth. No one can handle that. AT ALL.  My pros and cons about othodonstistry is also depending on the schooling. 8 years is a long time. Also a long time to think if you are getting bored of what you are being educated on.  Its that in the first 10 years of working the same job, it just gets old and you want to try something new. But as for a orthodontist the have already gone dental school! So that is a bonus!  But a good thing of having your education in orthodontistry is the money!  it pays from $90,000 to $164,848 per year in the United States, as of 2009 (D'Antuono 2011 [14] ). Money is a big thing in this world! Another pro about orthodontistry is their hours. Monday – Wednesday: 8 a.m. – 5p.m. Thursday:  8 a.m. – 4 p.m ( Dr. Stephen Tracey 2009 [33] ).  All in all , an occupation as an orthodontist wouldn't be so bad!
