Describe your volunteer activities in detail.
I arrived at 7:45am to check in for the event where I was given proper materials to pick up trash. I then went with a group of friends into the Wash area where we picked up a few bags of trash and dug out a half-buried shopping cart. We found various items such as clothing, bags, bottles, and numerous plastic materials.
What were your accomplishments?
I accomplished picking up bags of trash and digging out a half-buried shopping cart. I also felt like I made a difference in my community and helped cleaned an environmental landscape. I had a great experience and gained a personal sense of satisfaction and pride.
What did you learn?
I learned that mankind has become destructive and dangerous toward the environment and individuals in society must step forward in order to reverse their harmful actions. I did not realize how much man pollutes and trashes our environment, and was astonished at the amount of trash I found in one specified area. I can't even imagine how much must be gathering out in the world. I also learned that it takes time and effort to accomplish goals and make a difference in society and nature, but through hard work, dedication, and determination, we can ultimately achieve great things.

Other Notes

Greentorch photoluminescent exit signs help the environment by using no electricity, no batteries, and last longer than other self-luminous exit signs. Gambassa's "Energy efficiency and exit signs" project curriculum teaches students how to generate income by using available utility retrofit rebate programs to replace incandescent exit signs. Earn while you learn.
