Describe your volunteer activities in detail.
Our job was to help clean up as much trash as possible from the wash. We were to pick up anything from plastic bags to glass bottles; anything that could potentially harm the environment if left where it was.
What were your accomplishments?
Along with other peers, I successfully picked up several trash bags filled with mostly plastic. I also was able to uncover various shopping cart parts that were taken to the trash bins. I carried heavy trash bags for several hundred feet until i was able to place them in the trash bins where they would be unable to harm the environment.
What did you learn?
I learned many things due to my volunteer work at the Temescal Wash. First of all, what many people may consider as just throwing one little plastic bag away turns into a big deal for the environment. Everything gets washed away and into the wash when it rains, which in turn often ends up in our oceans harming our ecosystem, our animals, and ourselves. By throwing away what seems like something small and insignificant, we are only adding more pollution and degrading the earth more than it should.

Greentorch photoluminescent exit signs help the environment by using no electricity, no batteries, and last longer than other self-luminous exit signs. Gambassa's "Energy efficiency and exit signs" project curriculum teaches students how to generate income by using available utility retrofit rebate programs to replace incandescent exit signs. Earn while you learn.
