Describe your volunteer activities in detail.
I walked around and picked up trash in the Temescal Wash. I found one hidden area that contained so much trash that it filled up 10 bags between Maria and me. In this area there was a lot of styrofoam, bottles, plastic, and other miscellaneous objects. In another area, Maria and I pullled out a big blanket. We also tried to dig out a shopping cart but it was buried into the ground too deep for us to get it out.
What were your accomplishments?
I picked up a lot of trash in the Temescal Wash, such as plastic, styrofoam, and many other kinds of unnatural substances.
What did you learn?
I learned that there's a lot of trash in the Temescal Wash that needs to be picked up in order to sustain the environment for future years. The trash harms the environment by adding toxins, clogging up our drain systems, making our water supply dirty, harming animals, and building up bacteria. This all affects the health of the community as a whole and it destroys the natural beauty of our environment.

Greentorch photoluminescent exit signs help the environment by using no electricity, no batteries, and last longer than other self-luminous exit signs. Gambassa's "Energy efficiency and exit signs" project curriculum teaches students how to generate income by using available utility retrofit rebate programs to replace incandescent exit signs.
