Describe your volunteer activities in detail.
I walked through the wash with my friends John Luong and Cailin Mitchell, and we loaded our bags full of trash, taking 4 bags each back. We also took large items back, such as a couple tires, and even a 40 foot PVC pipe.
What were your accomplishments?
We cleaned up a majority of the Temescal Wash, making the environment a cleaner and safer place.
What did you learn?
I learned how quickly littering can build up, and the major impact littering and trash has on not only one part of the Earth, but the Earth as a whole, as the trash was beginning to flow into other areas of the town and the Wash itself. The pollution that is inherent in America has a much more adverse effect on the environment than I had first anticipated, and I witnessed this first-hand during this eventful and beneficial clean-up event.
