The cross streets of the Temescal Wash is off of Rincon and Auburndale.

In hours, how much time did you volunteer?
4 hours
Describe your volunteer activities in detail.
My volunteer activity consisted of walking into the Temescal Wash and removing any waste that has "washed" into it. The waste that I have removed includes, plastic, containers, paper, and a 55 gallon barrel. There was an endless amount of plastice bags. I personally moved 200 plastic bags at the very least.
What were your accomplishments?
When I first walked into the wash and looked ahead, I saw nothing but waste and filth. My second, third, and even fourth time of going back to remove more trash I noticed that it has been looking much more clean with every trip made. My accomplishment has most definitely been being able to see the progress I have made with my class mates in removing waste from the Temescal Wash.
What did you learn?
What I have learned from this service project was that people have to dispose of the their trash properly so that it does not go to the wash and even the ocean and coastal areas. We must find a more effective way to for people to dispose of trash and collecting recyclable items, and if they are not disposed of properly, there must be a way to collect them before they result to reside in the a Temescal Wash.
Attach any videos, images, audio, files, links or other documents related to your volunteer work, such as 'before and after' images, or videos of the volunteering in action. Give clear names and descriptions to the items so as to educate about your experience.

AP Environmental Science (Santiago High School) Temescal Wash Clean-Up couldn't have happened without the muscle and positive attitude of the Santiago High School AP Environmental Science class! This event has brought the best out of everyone toward taking care of the Earth.
Cleaning Crew This is the group that I cleaned with. We were able to take lots of bulk items and tons of bags of trash! Plastic bags was collected the most. This group was an overall fun and out going group. We were also fortunate to have Mr. Pitts clean with us as he notified us of the different native and invasive species as we made our way through the wash.

Other Notes
The main problem that I have encountered and realized during this event was that we use way too much plastic! Plastic use must be reduced significantly!

Greentorch photoluminescent exit signs help the environment by using no electricity, no batteries, and last longer than other self-luminous exit signs. Gambassa's "Energy efficiency and exit signs" project curriculum teaches students how to generate income by using available utility retrofit rebate programs to replace incandescent exit signs.
