These animals were brought to the Americas in the late 15th century by Spanish explorers to be used as domestic pigs. Since then they have been wreaking havoc on native populations. These extremely adaptive animals destroy plants that prevent erosion and provide sustenance for native species. They destroy breading and nesting sites for other native species like marine turtles. They also harm the economy and farmers by consuming 20,000 tons of sugar cane a year! These creatures are also very susceptible to various diseases which spread to farmers domestic live stock. This problem has grown to large to be solved simply by lots of barbecues.

The black rhino on average grows to 14ft and weighs 2 tons! These extraordinary creatures, rhinos, have been alive for 60 million years. Only about 10,000 of all species of rhinos exist today, less than 3,000 being from the black rhino. From 1970 to know the black rhino population has decreased by 90%, from 65,000 rhinos to a miniscule 2,500. They are so susceptible to poaching because of their horns which are made up of millions of tightly compacted fibers. Ancient legends said that rhinoceros horn were a cure to all ailments, this obviously false statement began the rise to rhino hunting. Since then rhinoceros's have dwindled in numbers, and although hunting them has been banned for over 20 years, it still continues and these poor, beautiful animals are near extinction.

The Kangaroo rat plays a vital role in North American Desert Ecosystems. The rodent has small pouches on the sides of it's mouth to carry food mainly seeds to it's burrow. Unlike the hamster these pockets are on the outside of it's cheeks. Because it carries so much food while traveling some seeds tend to fall out. The seed will grow after it rains making the rat the important gardener of the desert. Another role it plays is making the soil better. Due to its constant burrowing and foraging it rotates the soil making it quality. The kangaroo rat also supports some small mammals as it's old burrow's provide shelter. These lovely creatures play a vital role in the ecosystem but unfortunately they are dwindling in numbers and their survival is threatened due to habitat degradation.

Coolest Predator Adaptation

The Komodo Dragon has several cool adaptions that make it a stronger predator. They are very aggressive meat eaters and can take down animals as large as deer! One very prominent adaption is it's poison saliva. The saliva does not harm the komodo dragon but if inflicted on another animal then will be deadly and the animal will die within a week. Due to this the dragon often bites prey then stalks it for a week until it dies. When the prey does then the dragon viciously tears apart the body with another adaption: it's sharp set of claws and teeth designed for ripping meat. The Komodo Dragon's teeth go trough so much use that it gets four new sets every year!

Coolest Prey Adaptation

This little creature has several various adaptions that make it successful in evading predators. One adaption is it's color so it blends in with the surroundings and remains undetected. Another, is it's ability to puff itself up and seem more horny and less pleasant to swallow for the predator. The next quite impressive adaption in the ability to squirt blood from it's eye at the predator. Canines and felines are repulsed by it's taste and often retreat however it has no effect on birds.
