Most Invasive

Asian Green Mussels are greatly invasive species, affecting people harmfully. These mussels multiply rapidly and don't have a predator such as blue crabs that can keep up with its reproduction in order to control its population.

Asian Green Mussels ruin many ships due to their great accumulation on the area submerged under water. They also clog up the filters used by power plants in the ocean just by their vast numbers. Their destructive behavior can add up to millions of dollars on behalf of these companies.

These mussels have made their way from their native Southeast Asia onto invasion of places like Florida by attaching themselves to the hulls of long distance ships. Their presence has been greatly destructive and has been costing the nonnative lands money in terms of the economy.
Common Name: Asian Green Mussel
Scientific Name: Perna Viridis
Where on Earth is it a problem: Australia, Japan, parts of the Caribbean, South America and the southeastern United States
Where did it come from?: . Indian coast and throughout the Indo-Pacific and Asian Pacific

Most Endangered

Snow Leopards are greatly admired for their beautiful fur and graceful agility. They are now in danger of extinction due to hunting for their fur and internal organs which are used for traditional Chinese medicine.

It is known that there are only about 6,000 Snow Leopards that are alive today.

They tend to prey on animals of all sizes such as blue sheep. The disappearance of their habitat affects the numbers of prey which result to the decline of Snow Leopards. They live in snowy mountains which provide for the hardships in order to survive

Common Name: Snow Leopard
Scientific Name:
Uncia Uncia
Where does it live?:
mountains of Central Asia

Favorite Keystone

African Lions are beautiful creatures that prowl the grasslands of Africa. They take up about 100 square miles of territory.

African Lions prey on animals like antelope, wildebeast, and zebras. They are crucial to the ecosystem because they control the population of the herbivores. Without such control, the numbers of herbivores would outnumber the amount of producers in the environment causing overgrazing. Overgrazing will result to a destroyed ecosystem and land that is dry and lifeless. Without all the producers, the number of oxygen producers shall decrease and also affect the whole greenhouse effect.

Thanks to African Lions, they keep the cycle of a stable environment, thus benefitting the rest of the world.

Common Name: Africa Lion
Scientific Name:
Panthera Leo
Where does it live?:
Sub-Saharan Africa

Coolest Predator Adaptation

Weddell Seals prey on fish such as cod and silverfish and even octopuses. In order to obtain these prey, Weddell Seals have gone through physical and habitual changes.

Weddell Seals have extremely large eyes to enable them with the best vision possible to see a prey within the vast ocean. They also have extremely sensitive whiskers that enable them to feel slight changes in order to hunt.

Weddell Seals have adapted to new hunting methods such as using air. They blow air into small cracks in the ice to surprise the fish, of which they then devour.

Through natural selection, the physically apt and intellectually advanced has survived and created a form of adaptation.

Common Name: Weddell Seal
Scientific Name:
Leptonychotes Weddelli
Where does it live?:
Antartica

Coolest Prey Adaptation

Octopuses have an extraordinary defense mechanism that has allowed them to survive for centuries.

First, octpuses have extremely detailed system of pigments and muscles in the skin that allow it to take any form mimicking an object to deceive predators of its presence. Many predators such as eels or dolphins pass by an octopus without even noticing it there.

Then, if found, octopuses release a cloud of ink to give the octopus time to escape by ruining the predator's sight and also sense of smell.

If the octopus is captured, it can still escape by severing its own arm which can be grown back eventually.

Common Name: Octopus
Scientific Name:
Octopus Vulgaris
Where does it live?:
The common octopus can be found anywhere in the ocean.

Greentorch photoluminescent exit signs help the environment by using no electricity, no batteries, and last longer than other self-luminous exit signs. Gambassa's "Energy efficiency and exit signs" project curriculum teaches students how to generate income by using available utility retrofit rebate programs to replace incandescent exit signs.
