What volunteer activity do you plan on participating in?
I participated in the Arlanza Community Garden. It is a garden funded by community volunteers, to provide the low income community surrounding the garden with organic produce.
Where is the volunteer location?
The Arlanza Community Garden is located in Riverside, on the corner of Cypress Ave and Challen Ave.
When will this activity occur?
The activity took place on April 21, 2012.
What will be your responsibilities?
My responsibilities were to rake the soil and make sure that all of the weeds were gone so that it would be safe to plant seeds. I also had to help dig a small ditch where orange trees would be planted. Later on I helped make compost bins, which I already had knowledge of thanks to my compost bin in my apes class.
Who will be supervisor signing off on your volunteer hours?
Mrs. Fuller who is an avid teacher and language arts at SHS was present, as well as other SHS students.
How many hours total do you anticipate participating in this volunteer activity?
I was at the garden since 8 am until 5 in the afternoon, totaling 9 hours.
What do you hope to accomplish?
I hoped to aid a community that might not have had the opportunity to acquire organic produce if it wasn't for the volunteers. The city refused to fund the garden, which is why as volunteers we were more determined to make a difference in the community.

Which organization did you volunteer for?
I volunteered for the Child Leader Project.
Coordinator Contact info:
Mrs. Fuller, avid teacher and language arts teacher at SHS was present, and was the one to inform me of the community service opportunity.

In hours, how much time did you volunteer?
9 hours
Describe your volunteer activities in detail.
For a few hours I raked the soil and made sure that all the weeds were pulled out. After that I helped dig a ditch in the form of a key hole that would contain fruit tress later on. As the day progressed I helped make compost bins which contained grass, leaves, soil, coffee grains, and of course lots of water.
What were your accomplishments?
I was able to say that I took part in clearing the soil so that it is ready to be planted, and that I helped make compost bins.
What did you learn?
I learned how to make compost bins more efficient. I also learned that community gardens are very important considering that usually not many people in low income communities have the opportunity to have organic produce.
