Describe your volunteer activities in detail.
We were handed large plastic trash bags so that we could fill them with any plastic that we found on the beach. For the first half an hour, we were educated on how the pollution of beaches effects the marine animals and ecosystem, and also how some few changes could drastically reduce the amount of trash pollution on the beach, such as swtiching to cloth groceries, recycling, reusing, and reducing!
What were your accomplishments?
I filled three large plastic trash bags with loads of plastic, styrafoam, glass, personal hygene items, and a lot more unforgiving, degrading items.
What did you learn?
I learned that you really don't have to be at the beach to pollute it. If you were to litter a piece of plastic out on the streets of a suburb, that trash would end up on the sands of our beaches either through the watershed, or the wind, or my transit.
