Describe (in detail) what you presented on EARTH Day. Be sure to describe your "hook," your activity, and your "wrap up" in enough detail that next year's groups will be able to use it and improve upon it.
We started our EARTH day presentation with a few fun questions designed to get the students thinking about water. There were four questions and each of these questions had multiple choice answers. Students who answered these questions correctly received candy both as an incentive to participate and a reward. Afterwards, we told some interesting facts on water that focused on how it is being used inefficiently and the repercussions of this. Our activity simulated the classic game charades. We wrote out many note cards with a water-related activity (i.e. flushing the toilet, brushing your teeth, washing your car, etc...) written in the back. Students would then volunteer to act this activity out while their peers tried guessing what they were doing. Afterwards, once the individual who answered correctly was rewarded with candy, our group would say a fact describing the average amount of water used to carry out the action. My group's wrap up was merely a discussion of the various types of strategies one can use to conserve water. We explained different tips that makes saving water simple, especially tips that the students themselves can carry out. As visuals to demonstrate water saving potential, members of our groups also periodically pointed to gallons of water. To end the presentation we handed out booklets on water conservation that the city provided as well as bucket and sponges.
Please describe in detail suggestions you have for improving your presentation if it were to be done in the future.
Overall, our presentation went extremely well. However, if there was one aspect that we could have improved on it would have been on the communication within our group. At the beginning of the day, it was a bit difficult getting started because our group had trouble communicating our ideas effectively. This led to some disorganization but in the end everything was pulled together and our lesson ran on smoothly.
