Describe (in detail) what you presented on EARTH Day. Be sure to describe your "hook," your activity, and your "wrap up" in enough detail that next year's groups will be able to use it and improve upon it.
On Earth Day, my group presented the topic water conservation. For our hook, we used a diagnostic test to test the elementary school kids to determine how much they know about saving water. Four different questions were asked and students who raised their hand first were given the opportunity to answer. When answered correctly, the student was rewarded either a bucket or sponge to assist the child in practicing water conservation. If the student answered the question wrong, the other kids are given an opportunity to answer. For our activity, the students played a game similar to gestures. Water conserving related words were written on note cards and distributed to volunteers within each group. The student with the first card tries to describe the written word to the others through varying hand movements without any sound, and the child who guesses the object first is rewarded with candy. This was repeated several times depending on the amount of time left. As our closing, we suggested simple ways to conserve water in their every day life. Such as turning the water off while brushing their teeth or using a broom instead of using a hose to clean the driveway. Gallons of water were referred to when ways to conserve water was suggested to the students.
Please describe in detail suggestions you have for improving your presentation if it were to be done in the future.
To improve our presentation, more buckets and sponges could have been purchased for the last couple groups, we began to run out of supplies as rewards to the children.
