Which sustainability component will your lesson focus on?
Our lesson focuses on eating and growing local food that was grown via organic farming.
What related problem/issue will you present?
Fossil fuels wasted in sending produce over vast distances rather than growing local.
What supporting facts characterize the problem?
We used four definitions in our presentation: compost, fossil fuels, loam soil, and organic farming.
What solution will you offer?
Our group will offer a solution relating to growing food locally and growing it organically without artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
What action or actions do you want people to take as a result of your lesson?
We want everyone to grow their own food and rely less on fossil fuels.
Please attach any supporting audio, video, images, files, blogs, links, graphs or other related to the problem or your solution?
Describe (in detail) what you presented on EARTH Day. Be sure to describe your "hook," your activity, and your "wrap up" in enough detail that next year's groups will be able to use it and improve upon it.
Our hook was essentially an enthuastic introduction into the green team. Our activity was showing and allowing the children to experience a garden and the benefits of growing one. They were encouraged to interact with the different plant life. Our wrap up was describing the broken system of food production in our country, including the transportation of produce over large distances rather than local growers.
Please describe in detail suggestions you have for improving your presentation if it were to be done in the future.
Improvements in our presentation could be done through better preperation, smoother execution, and more enthusiasm in our lesson ideals. Better preperation can likely be achieved by our group showing up early to make sure that all problems are dealt with ahead of time. Smoother execution can be achieved by our group having ready a more interactive plan. Lastly, more enthusiasm can be achieved simply through more coffee and sleep.
